Kansas City’s beloved Celtic-rock outfit The Elders blend Irish roots, folk-rock, and Americana into widescreen songs driven by storytelling, tight harmonies, and fiddles-and-guitars energy. Formed in 1998 and still touring, the six-piece is fronted by County Wicklow native Ian Byrne alongside Norm Dahlor, Kian Byrne, Diana Ladio, Dan Loftus, and Bill Latas. The band has played major festivals across the U.S. and Ireland and is known for rousing live shows that turn theatres into sing-along sessions.
Over nine studio albums and multiple live releases, The Elders have built a songbook that folds family lore, immigration tales, and modern life into an unmistakable Celtic-rock pulse. Fan favorites and staples like “American Wake,” “Racing the Tide,” “Gael Day,” and “Story Road” showcase the group’s melodic heft and lyrical focus. Their “Live at the Gem” concert was broadcast on more than 100 PBS stations, and the band has earned honors including induction into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame and a Telly Award.
