Edith Makes a Paper Chain is an indie-folk band based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The band is known for its unique and beautiful melodies, which are enhanced by the use of viola, mandolin, and brass instruments such as the bass trumpet.
Their style has been described as gypsy folk, indie rock, power pop, and even haunted circus music, reflecting a diverse and eclectic musical influence. The band members bring a variety of influences to their sound, drawn from their diverse backgrounds. The lineup includes Sarah Hope, a poet and songbird who played in Minneapolis bands Death and the Raven, and Dogtooth Violet, before moving to Colorado in 1997. Hilary Studebaker, described as a lovely witch, plays viola, violin, and sings harmonies. She has been involved in numerous bands from Colorado to Texas. Other members include Melissa Fuller on bass, Matt Chmielarczyk on mandolin and ukelele, Donovan Freeman on drums, and Jeremy Van Hoy, who brings his expertise with brass instruments to the group.
Edith Makes a Paper Chain has achieved recognition within their local music scene. They were named ‘Best Folk Band’ in Colorado Springs by the readers of the Colorado Springs Independent and won the 2009 Pikes Peak Arts Council Award for Excellence in the Arts in the Popular Music category. Their discography includes the “Tunes For Tripping Down Stairs” EP released in June 2009, and the “Beau and Arrow” LP released in August 2010. Their music is characterized by thoughtful lyrics and a style that combines various elements in an intriguing way. The vocal harmonies, led by Sarah Hope’s quicksilver voice, are a notable aspect of their music, often described as gorgeous. The interplay between Van Hoy’s brass instruments and Chmielarczyk’s mandolin adds a distinctive flavor to their sound.

Jeremy Facknitz has been entertaining audiences with his lovingly crafted music and high-energy performances for over a quarter century. Since the 2002 break-up of his Detroit-based band “The Ottomans” (they earned a 2001 Detroit Music Award for Best New Alternative Band, beating out “The White Stripes”), Jeremy has performed primarily as a solo act, marrying folk-rock and jazz stylings to showcase his intimate stories of life, love, and self-discovery.
